Alpen Macaroni

Super-tasty winter comfort food.

Makes 6 servings.

350 g macaroni
3 Tbsp butter melted
2 large onions finely chopped
200 ml milk
350 ml cream
350 g cheese grated

Boil the macaroni to al-dente. Keep warm. Preheat the oven to 220°C (or 200°C with fan). Fry the onions in the butter and set aside. Mix cream and milk, and let it simmer. Mix in about half of the grated cheese until it has melted. Mix the macaroni with one quarter of the grated cheese and stir so that it melts. Add salt and pepper, and transfer to a greased baking dish. Pour the cheese sauce evenly over the noodles, and then distribute remaining grated cheese and fried onions across the top of the dish. Bake for 6-8 mins until the grated cheese has melted. Serve immediately, with apple sauce.
